Manal Mohamed, a Syrian artist, and calligrapher, started her journey in the NFT world in 2022 from traditional art to digital one and published her artworks on the NFT marketplaces of OpenSea and UPYO.



In an interview with her via podcast, Mohamed hailed UPYO&#8217;s idea of launching a series of podcasts, which gives an opportunity for all NFT artists to introduce themselves and their digital art.



After hearing about the NFTs in late 2022, she began to transform her traditional art into NFTs and educated herself on digital art. Then she began to release digital collectibles on UPYO and OpenSea.



Regarding the Arab NFT industry, Mohamed said that the industry in the Arab world is still in the building phase, saying many people still do not believe in the power of cryptocurrencies and NFTs but there are some Arabs who began to make a profit from them. She pointed out that it is a matter of time to gain wide popularity, adding Arab NFT projects could lure foreign investors in the future.



Asking her about advice she could give to other artists who are hesitating to enter the NFT world, the Kuwait-based artist asserted the importance of getting educated about this field and asking those who entered this world before to benefit from their expertise.

As for factors that attract investors to invest in Arab NFTs, she affirmed that steps are being currently taken in this regard like sharing information through Twitter spaces like what UPYO does, which raises awareness about this field among people.



She rolled out holding big NFT galleries like what Orlando Museum of Art announced about showcasing some NFTs for the first time, expecting the Arab world is now witnessing simple NFT galleries and it needs time to achieve progress.



UPYO is one of the first Arab platforms in the NFT, which will one of the founders of the world of NFTs in the Arab region.



She supported the suggestion proposed by Amr Bogari about NFT gallery in the real world with the participation of different Arab artists.

Arab Artist Urges To Share Information about NFTs

After the buzz caused by the NFTs (non-fungible tokens) over the past two years, the Arab world became more interested in the NFT industry as the past months saw the release of a big number of NFT projects.&nbsp;

The Crypto Camels Club&#8217;s main goal is to promote the cultural identity of the MENA region in the Web3 world by launching a set of NFTs. The project&#8217;s founders seek to use the NFTs for the public interest by donating 20% of the proceeds to charitable organizations.&nbsp;

The main goal of First Arabs is to support disadvantaged Arab communities as a large portion of the profits will be distributed to high-impact charitable organizations, which work on combating hunger and disease, empowering youth, and helping refugees.



The collection&#8217;s primary sales are set to be donated at key milestones, in addition to profits of the secondary sales and profits from future projects and activations.&nbsp;



The founders of the NFT project wish to build a community that brings people closer together and shares Arab culture across the world. Moreover, the First Arabs signed a partnership agreement with UNHCR to reconsider the NFTs&#8217; role in influencing the real world.&nbsp;

The First Arabs Aims To Support Disadvantaged Communities

A large number of global artists succeeded in entering the NFT market in the Arab world and earned great fame in it.&nbsp;



Among the most significant names that broke into the Arab digital market is the renowned British artist Amrita Sethi. In the following lines, we will review Sethi&#8217;s story of success in the Arab digital market.&nbsp;



Who Is Amrita Sethi?&nbsp;



Sethi is a British citizen of Indian origin. Born and raised in Kenya, she lived in Switzerland, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and the UK before settling in Dubai in 2007.



She received a Bachelor&#8217;s degree in economics from the University of Manchester in 2002 and a master&#8217;s degree in development economics from the same university in 2003.&nbsp;



She obtained a Certificate for Financial Advisers (CeFA), Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law from The London Institute of Banking &amp; FinanceThe London Institute of Banking &amp; Finance in 2006.&nbsp;



Sethi also received a certificate in digital from the University of the Arts in London in 2018.&nbsp;



Her Career



Sethi started her career by working in the field of economics and assumed positions at global banks and financial services companies, such as HSBC, Barclays, Zurich Insurance, and others.&nbsp;



She left this domain after working in it for more than 15 years then she started her artistic career. Her decision did not come in a vacuum, but she had a passion for art since she was young.&nbsp;



In an interview with Forbes Magazine, she said that she was into art since childhood but she fell madly in love with economics and when she achieved great success in economics, she wanted to do the same thing in art.&nbsp;



Voice Note Art



After she broke into the art domain, Sethi quickly made a name for herself by embracing a multimedia art form, known as Voice Note Art or SoundBYTE.&nbsp;



Sethi first records a voice note, for example, a city/ person/ feeling, etc, and captures the fluid shape and structure of the sound wave. Then she draws each vertical line into individual images that encapsulates the beauty, spirit, and essence of that voice note. When it&#8217;s complete, it magically combines the artwork with the shape of the sound to create new SoundBYTE art.



In 2018, she recorded her voice, saying Dubai, and drew the soundwave, showcasing the emirate&#8217;s skyscrapers and landmarks.&nbsp;



She is keen to draw cities and landmarks in this way as well as the crucial moments in people&#8217;s lives. She told CNN that she wanted to capture the human awareness and emotion that comes from hearing a word or phrase and then present it in a more abstract form.



Such art dominated people&#8217;s imagination, especially in Dubai, where she lives. Within a few months after abandoning economics, Sethi won the Best Outstanding Award at World Art Dubai in 2019.&nbsp;



Since then, she has created paintings based on the art of voice notes for a range of clients, including celebrities and world leaders, such as Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.&nbsp;

Her Accession to NFTs&nbsp;



Sethi was keen on joining the NFT world in the early stage as she became the first NFT artist in the UAE. She combined the voice note art with the NFTs, a matter which pushed media outlets like CNN and Forbes to shed light on this new type of art.&nbsp;



She achieved a wide reputation in the NFT world. She obtained the Golden visa in Dubai in recognition of her contributions to the digital art market in the UAE.&nbsp;



She draw the World&#8217;s 1st Augmented Reality (AR) NFT mural at the Dubai International Financial Centre. Sales of Sethi&#8217;s NFTs reached about half a million dollars at the time of writing.&nbsp;

Several Arab artists begin to realize the importance of digital assets by turning their artworks into NFTs. Among the most prominent artists, who utilized NFTs is the Canadian-Algerian artist Amelia Hadouchi.&nbsp;



Who Is Amelia Hadouchi?&nbsp;



Hadouchi is a Canadian artist of Algerian origin. Born in 1992 in Montreal, Hadouchi entered the art world at a young age, starting to attend painting workshops when she was nine, and hasn&#8217;t stopped since.



She studied international business and languages at Dawson College in Canada then interior design. While sharing her artistic works on social media, a gallery in Miami invited her to attend the 2016 Art Basel.&nbsp;



After her success in Basel, Hadouchi took part in several art exhibitions around the world and cooperated with renowned brands and companies like Volvo, Marc Jacobs, New Balance, and Mercedes.&nbsp;



She is keen on participating in charity. In November 2018, she lectured a three-day workshop for cancer patients at the Gilda&#8217;s Club Greater Toronto and also donated many of her artworks to charitable organizations.

Several factors impact Hadouchi&#8217;s artworks. She believes that traveling is part and parcel of her artistic development and that nature is her main source of aspiration.&nbsp;



The colors, vibrations, and nature of the places she visits remain in her mind and presents them in her work. In addition to nature, she finds inspiration in positivity, luxury, space, and minerals.

Who Is Ghizlan Guenez?&nbsp;



Guenez is an Algerian entrepreneur, who is living in Dubai. She graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a bachelor&#8217;s degree. She started her career by working in the financial resources field for over 10 years.&nbsp;



Shift to Fashion&nbsp;



After being in the domain of financial resources for over 10 years, Guenez decided to shift to fashion after noticing that Arab women laboriously find elegant and modest clothing at the same time.&nbsp;



Hench, Guenez set up her first fashion project named &#8220;The Modist&#8221; in conjunction with International Women&#8217;s Day in 2017. The Modist is an online shopping site specializing in showing and selling modest clothing for women. The site has succeeded in attracting large investors and international brands in a very short period.&nbsp;

Heading for Web3



Guenez decided to enter the web after achieving great success and meeting Arab women&#8217;s needs. She entered web3 from a different gate as she wanted to educate women on the third generation of the internet, especially the non-fungible tokens (NFTs).&nbsp;



She said, in a video on Twitter, that women&#8217;s volume of sales in traditional art markets is 50% lower than that of men, adding women&#8217;s artworks in the field of NFT represent only 16%, while their sales represent 5% of the total sales.



She attributed these incompatible figures to an old-fashioned belief which claims that technology is dominated by males. Therefore, Guenez decided to change this perspective and make a radical change by announcing her NFT project called &#8220;Queen Mode.&#8221;&nbsp;



What Is Queen Mode?&nbsp;



Queen Mode is an NFT collection that consists of 9,999 NFTs of women wearing different styles of crowns. Using this collection, Guenez aims to create a community of like-minded women in which they can connect and elevate each other.

Kristel Bichara: Story of One of First Arab Artists in NFTs

Several famous Arab figures realized the importance of investing in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) after their wide popularity. One of the most prominent Arab figures that early realized the importance of NFTs is Sharifa AlBarami.&nbsp;



Who Is Sharifa AlBarami?&nbsp;



Barami is an entrepreneur and one of the most successful women figures in Oman. She got a bachelor&#8217;s degree with honors in biomedical sciences from the University of Portsmouth, the United Kingdom. She is also a graduate of the IMD School of Commerce and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Political Science. She was an associate at the Association of Certified Small Business Consultants (AASBC) in the United States.&nbsp;



Barami has assumed several important posts, including the cofounder and executive director of technology at MarkeetEx and the founder and CEO of the BizHub Entrepreneurship Foundation, which works as an incubator program for the Omani market.&nbsp;



She was the managing director of the Oman Tech Fund (OTF) and a unit head of the Laboratories Quality Assurance at the Omani Health Ministry.



Now, she is a member of the board of directors of Awasr, the broadband internet service provider in Oman, and an alumni board member of the Royal Academy of Management.&nbsp;



Barami was not satisfied with working in the field of health and technology, she entered the media field and presented a large number of programs through which she provided Arab content that aims to raise awareness about cryptocurrencies, NFTs, metaverse, and web3.&nbsp;

Sharifa AlBarami and NFTs



As previously mentioned, Barami entered the field of NFTs, very early on, when the technology was still in its beginning. This came in light of her conviction in this technology on the one hand and her keenness to support the art and business sector on the other hand.



She thought that although artists and innovators showcase valuable artworks, they do not get what they deserve because most of the money goes to brokers who market these artworks.&nbsp;



Hence, Barami decided to join the NFT world



How Was The Beginning?&nbsp;



Barami started to purchase NFTs of artists whose artworks she loved. She saw that their works should be fully appreciated regarding their prices without the interference of any intermediaries who share in the returns they get. She believed that destabilizes the revenue model of the art sector.&nbsp;



After that, she decided to join several NFT projects like World of Women after believing in its idea, message, and team. She also joined the Emirati project of CryptoArabs NFT, describing it as one of the most famous NFT projects in the Arab world.&nbsp;



Barami says she is always keen to join projects that give a real message, and she wants to be part of her communities.



Barami&#8217;s Advice



She advises her followers to believe in the NFTs&#8217; importance, expecting they would turn into an integrated economy in the coming years. She recommends those who want to invest in the NFTs to be patient, recalling her quote: &#8220;Patience is the game of investment.&#8221;



She believes in not paying attention to any profit in the first phase in the case of investing but rather the ability of this project to make an impact on society because if it succeeds in making an effect, it will create a great value for itself. Therefore this will reflect positively on the profitability return.
