The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched a service in the metaverse to develop the medical teams&#8217; performance.



The launch of the virtual service came within the ministry&#8217;s announcement during a press conference held at Arab Health 2023, which is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center, Zawya reported.



MoHAP&#8217;s 3D Digital Metaverse Assessment Service aims to gather the real, virtual, and digital worlds to improve the performance of government and private medical facilities. It is also dedicated to remotely evaluating medical teams, including doctors and allied health professionals, in addition to simplifying procedures using AI technologies.



Speaking during the conference, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector Amin Hussein Al Amiri said: &#8220;This service will also streamline procedures while maintaining data security through AI. It will be unique and has several key features, including transparency and secure remote assessment where AI will be used to ensure that personal data and medical certificates match during the assessment process.&#8221;



The metaverse-based technology will reportedly analyze facial expressions and monitor eye movements for ensuring safety for the assessment process. During the assessment, users can display necessary documents while ensuring confidentiality and security for all data.



The ministry also offered a new medical thermal imaging technology, which allows doctors to examine patients by detecting diabetic foot inflammation for early diagnosis, monitoring surgical sites for infection risk, and determining psychological state through facial temperature analysis.



Amiri asserted that VR technology would play a highly crucial role in the UAE in the coming 50 years, therefore, it is essential to deploy the metaverse in several health services offered to both medical teams and patients.



In general, the UAE has recently witnessed growth in transforming many medical services into virtual space through initiatives launched by the government and private sector.

UAE Health Ministry Launches 2 Metaverse-Based Services

The Emirates Health Services (EHS) announced the launch of a transformative project which aims to deploy metaverse in its services.



Using 3D virtual reality technology, EHS targets offering medical consultation services in the virtual space, like remote health solutions and telemedicine. Through the new technology, residents can access e-services via smart devices.



The services offered to the patients range between psychiatric consultation services, family health promotion, and customer happiness centers, <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/business/healthcare/uae-ehs-launches-transformative-project-that-deploys-metaverse-technology-in-healthcare-delivery-eeitqvlm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">according to Zawya</a>.



In this regard, EHS Director-General Yousif Mohammed Al-Serkal said EHS is the first global healthcare provider to launch metaverse-based services in order to enhance sustainable health development goals by adopting technologies such as AI, blockchain, and LoT.



&#8220;This aims to strengthen governance, clinical review services, and research, promote global ethical standards and best practices, and enhance the sector’s competitiveness to world-class levels. The above aligns with our strategy of future-proofing our services against emerging challenges,&#8221; Serkal added.



Through the new services, patients can communicate with healthcare professionals using their cameras, microphones, and speakers without the need to buy headphones or controllers. Then doctors can assess the patients&#8217; health conditions and provide treatment and other clinical services.



EHS will offer psychiatric consultation services for customers of different ages in addition to services for families.



It is not the first time for healthcare providers in the UAE to announce deploying the metaverse in their services. In December, GOQii, an Indian fitness technology company, announced it would launch its medical services in the metaverse in the UAE, following India and the United Kingdom.



The Emirati government, in July, launched the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which aims to contribute $4 billion to the emirate’s economy. The strategy targets increasing the number of blockchain and metaverse companies fivefold within five years as well as offering 40,000 virtual jobs.

EHS of UAE Announces Launching Metaverse-Based Services for Patients

GOQii, an Indian fitness technology company, announced it would launch its medical services in the metaverse in the UAE, following India and the United Kingdom.



GOQii collaborated with Harley International Medical Clinic in Dubai to promote the health metaverse, as diabetics in the UAE will be able to enroll on the GOQii health platform to follow up on their health condition through the diabetes care program on the metaverse.



Through the guidance of experts, users will be directed to a comprehensive digital platform and equipped with modern connected devices, doctors, health coaches, who will guide the patients to adjust their lifestyle and control their HbA1C levels. Users will be able to create their avatars on the metaverse while connected to their GOQii Age.



In this regard, Founder and CEO of GOQii Vishal Gondal said this Web3-based health technology is meant to bring health and fitness to the virtual space for end-consumers to become more healthy and fit.



&#8220;With the advent of 5G and better screens, we believe that the interaction will start transitioning to a more 3D gaming-like experience. We’re launching a 3D user interface where you have a 3D avatar and the various zones that your avatar can experiment with. Think of it like – healthcare meets gaming, where you create your own character or avatar who further interacts with other avatars through the 3D metaverse. Recently, a report by Chalhoub Group found that there is a high level of awareness in the UAE about the metaverse, NFTs, and crypto.

India’s GOQii Launches Metaverse-Based Health Services in UAE

The Future Health Summit, set to be held on February 2 as a part of the Arab Health will tackle the role which could be played by the metaverse in healthcare.

According to a research report by Market Research Future (MRFR), titled Healthcare in Metaverse Market, the healthcare metaverse market is expected to go up at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 48.3% by 2030, with an expected value worth $5.37 billion.



The exhibition will witness the debut of the Intelligent Health Pavilion and the return of the Future Health Summit in partnership with the Intelligent Health Association.



The summit will tackle incredible opportunities for the healthcare sector in the metaverse. It will shed light on the metaverse advantages in surgical operations, mental health treatment, and training.

Future Health Summit to Tackle Role of Metaverse in Healthcare

ShopDoc, an Indian health tech start-up, based in the United Arab of Emirates (UAE), partnered with Clear, the world&#8217;s first digital optical prescription, based in the US, to launch all-in-one eye care through the metaverse.



ShopDoc, through Clear&#8217;s algorithmic capabilities, will conduct eyeglasses prescription tests in the metaverse amid reports saying that the traditional eye test is expensive and inconvenient and takes much time.



The reports, made by the World Economic Forum, said 50% of people skip their recommended annual eye test, while about 2.5 billion do not have access to it at all.



The metaverse-based digital eye project is set to be launched in the UAE and India in the initial phases, with plans to expand to other countries later, <a href="https://www.arabianbusiness.com/industries/healthcare/uae-to-hit-another-global-first-with-a-metaverse-eye-test-project-by-healthtech-shopdoc" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">according to Arab Business news</a>.



In this regard, Founder of ShopDoc Shihab Makaniyil said through this partnership, this innovative project will replace the traditional eye tests by using state-of-art optical modeling and frontier mathematics to get an accurate calculation and simulation of customers’ optical prescriptions and 20/20 visual performance.



However, Makaniyil pointed out the eye test project will not be fully in the virtual world, unlike the other metaverse projects.



“Though we will be introducing the digital eye test through the metaverse, it will not be done 100 percent in the metaverse. It will take customers to a normal web environment where they need to use a computer and get their eye tests done, following certain instructions on the screen to complete the process,” he told Arab Business.



He also added that this ground-breaking venture would make the eye tests affordable, accessible, and enjoyable for customers in addition to turning the focus of eye care from reactive to proactive.



ShopDoc, which has over 100 eye clinics in the UAE, plans to launch various such projects. It is worth mentioning that Clear is founded by former NASA optical physicist Brandon Zimmerman.



Last year, the Indian tech start-up collected $1.36 million in seed funding from investors in the UAE.
